Davenport Veterans Memorial Park: (Phase I)

On March 19, 2014, a large-scale master plan and Phase II concept was officially unveiled, in the process creating a memorial that appropriately honors area veterans while also providing a destination for visitors in the area to enjoy.

In the Fall of 2023, the 8’x40’ Mural will be installed, a Bugler Statue (plays Taps & Reveille daily), 14 Educational signs (12 signs that are 20”x32”, and two that are 4’x8’) will be installed along the walking trail. The signs will have pictures and descriptions of the six branches of the military (including Space Force), along with seven signs with info and pictures of some of the wars the US has been involved, and a large sign with information about the Rock Island Arsenal Military base.

With this initial investment by the City and a publicly vetted plan developed by SmithGroup-JJR from Madison, WI, (funded by the city) and approved by the City Council, The Friends of Veterans Memorial Park (FOVMP), a 501c3 fundraising organization, formed to work with the City of Davenport and its Parks Department to raise funds to implement subsequent phases.
